The lone dead: Golden Mile Complex, Carpark

A 70-year-old male person was found dead on Feb 25, 9am, at the multiple storey carpark of Golden Mile Complex.

 

Eyewitnesses that Shin Min Daily News 新明日报 spoke to said that they saw police vehicles at Golden Mile Complex on the morning of Feb 25, and officers were seen at the complex’s carpark. The area was cordoned off from the public.

A body covered with a white cloth lay under a stairway, and about ten police officers and paramedics were seen at the scene. The nationality of the deceased was not named.

 

A female employee of the carpark who was the first person that discovered the deceased told Shin Min the deceased was shirtless and was lying face-up on a makeshift wooden bed, though his legs/lower body was found hanging from his bed. A pillow was also found over his face. When found, he was already unresponsive.

 

According to this same eyewitness, who did not want to be named, the deceased person has been rough sleeping at a stairway of the carpark over the past few months.

 

A friend of the deceased, who arrived at the scene after being informed by the police to possibly identify the latter’s identity, said that he has known the deceased since he was 18; the deceased, according to him, had suffered from chronic diseases.

Shin Min, after viewing the deceased, noticed that his face was swollen and blue, and there were signs of suffocation.

Nearby stallholders said that the deceased is a familiar face in the vicinity, and he was often seen drinking at pubs in the Complex with his friends. Recently, he was sighted drinking alone.

 

The Singapore Police Force confirmed that they were alerted to a case of unnatural death on the morning (around 9am) of 25 February 2023. A 70-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

 

Investigations are ongoing, but no foul play is suspected.
